Welcome
*Call to Worship
Leader: We travel the road to Jerusalem.
People: We travel the road to resurrection.
Leader: It will require that we give up so much.
People: It will offer, instead, so much more.
All: With grateful hearts, we journey together. Amen!
*Gathering Hymn The Glory of These Forty Days, Verse 2
*Corporate Confession (Unison)
Merciful God,
As we travel this Lenten journey,
give us the sincerity to speak the truth
of both our beauty and our brokenness.
Remind us that we are made in your image,
and forgive us when we forget that image –
hungering instead for that which does not satisfy,
clinging to that which does not give life,
ignoring those who need our love.
And in your mercy,
give us renewal, reparation, resurrection.
Amen.
*Assurance of God’s Love

Moment for Reflection
Musical Reflection
Rêverie (8:30am)
Claude Debussy (1862-1918)
I Dream A World (11:00am)
Rosephanye Powell (b. 1962)
I dream a world where man
No other man will scorn,
Where love will bless the earth
And peace its paths adorn.
I dream a world where all
Will know sweet freedom’s way,
Where greed no longer saps the soul
Nor avarice blights our day.
A world I dream where black or white,
Whatever race you be,
Will share the bounties of the earth
And every man is free,
Where wretchedness will hang its head
And joy, like a pearl,
Attends the needs of all mankind-
Of such I dream, my world!

RESPONDING TO GOD’S GRACE
Offering Ourselves and Our Gifts
Making a financial gift makes Montview’s programs and ministries possible, including this worship service. You are invited to give generously at www.montview.org/giving or by texting a dollar amount to 720.452.6449. Offering boxes are stationed at the exit for cash and checks. We’re grateful for your support.
All are invited to sign and pass the Friendship Pad and greet each other by name.
*Prayer of Dedication (Unison)
God, you have so greatly loved us, long sought us, and mercifully redeemed us. Give us grace that in everything, we may yield ourselves, our wills and our works, a continual thank offering to you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
*Response When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer (Unison)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
*Closing Hymn
728 Somebody’s Knocking At Your Door (Somebody’s Knocking)
This morning’s performance of “Somebody’s Knocking At Your Door” – an American Negro Spiritual – is presented in accordance with our Reparations Royalty Pilot Program: a practice of valuing the musical contributions of enslaved Africans to American worship and song. Congregants are invited to make a reparation royalty contribution via the pew offering envelope (write “reparations royalty”). Contributions can also be made online at Montview.org/giving (One-time gift: Reparations Royalty Fund) or by clicking here.

GUEST PREACHER: REV. NADIA BOLZ-WEBER
We are happy to welcome Rev. Nadia Bolz-Weber to our pulpit once again. Rev. Bolz-Weber is serving as Theologian-in-Residence at Montview Church, as well as Pastor of Public Witness with the Rocky Mountain Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
MINISTRY HIGHLIGHT: REPARATIONS ROYALTY PROGRAM
Since September of 2022, Montview has piloted a Reparations Royalty Program – a practice of valuing the musical contributions of enslaved Africans to American worship and song. Over the past year and a half, our Reparations Royalty Fund has amassed over $12,000. Our first payment went to the Hope Center, a nonprofit that provides early childhood education to predominately low-income African American children.
NEW PARAMENTS
Last Sunday, new Lenten paraments were installed in the chancel, marking our shift into the season of Lent. Made by artist and Montview member, Eric Muller-Girard, these paraments exemplify Lent through the image of a solitary “night journey.” We’re grateful to Eric for creating these beautiful designs for our sanctuary.
