Paul Klee was a Swiss-German artist who began creating abstract art after a trip to Tunisia in 1914. He fell in love with color and light on that trip and painted in the styles of Cubism, Expressionism and Surrealism highlighting these two art elements for the rest of his career. Castle and Sun is hung a private collection.
This cityscape with its bright colors, simple shapes, and tiled effect seemed an appropriate work for the joy of the third week of Advent. It is reminiscent of children’s creations of colored blocks built in the spirit of fun, innocence and freedom and seems a little unstable as those structures often are. This work seems to express the perfect imperfection of a life well lived. It seems to invite each of us to again claim our birthright of joy.
I hope you feel joy and share joy in this Advent week. The gift of God is coming and is already here! Thanks be to God.
In hope and faith,
