Art Reflection - Kern

Theodor Kern (1900-1969) was born in Salzburg, Austria. He studied art in Austria, Paris, and Italy and settled in England in 1938. He painted in many styles including the abstracted style of this painting.

With the Christ child as the focus of line and light amid muted colors, Kern seems to capture the energy of those first days of visitors, of wonder and thanksgiving.

This view is filled with adoration for a beautiful, tiny child and the slow realization that he had come from God to change the world. May we all join this crowded scene in our thoughts and hearts this Christmas Season. May we keep our astonished gazes on Emmanuel, God with us, again and always.

In gratitude, faith and hope,
