If you have visited Millennium Park in Chicago since 2004, you are probably familiar with at least one work of this artist. Anish Kapoor, an Indian-born British artist, created Cloud Gate. That work is affectionately referred to by many as “The Bean” and is a huge shape with a highly reflective surface. Kapoor repeated his use of reflective surfaces in his Sky Mirror Series. These concave mirrors with a 35 foot diameter provide a play on reality with a new exploration of space and time highlighting and opening the environment of their placement. As these mirrors come alongside creation, we can know the adventure and appreciation of new eyes and new amazement.
Anish Kapoor speaks of the power of concave mirrors to fuse objects, viewers and surroundings in a fluctuating form. This sounds like a hope for our faith also. We hope to connect in new and important ways with the environment and the people of our always changing world. May the Sky Mirrors both emphasize and inspire our faithful work for this planet and its people. Amen.
In gratitude, faith and hope,
