Wolf Kahn (1927-2020) was a German born American artist who combined Realism and Color Field in his paintings and pastel pieces. His works are a Modern Art play on color and light abstracting his images and expressing a feeling through them. Trees by a Waterway is a clear example of his effort to show us what he saw and felt.
It is said that Wolf Kahn made light from color. In this painting his use of tints, hues plus white, seems to express light. And beyond the obvious hopes to see and give thanks for views such as this, this work seems a larger call to make light as Kahn did. Maybe with music or paint or prayer or loving attention we too can make light where there is none or where it is fading. May our efforts be inspired by the alarmingly beautiful tint of orange yellow we see here. Thanks be to God.
In gratitude, faith and hope,
