Olafur Eliasson, an Icelandic-Danish artist, was born in 1967. He is known throughout the art world for his explorations of light, color, geometry and ecological awareness in large-scaled sculptures and installations like the one shared here, unfortunately pictured without scale. This may be a call to more research. His unique approach has included such things as flooding museums! He also established Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin in 1995 for spatial research.
This artist currently has his first solo exhibition entitled OPEN as part of the ambitious project known as PST ART: Art & Science Collide. This endeavor is sponsored by the Getty and currently presented in museums across Southern California. OPEN is at The Geffen Contemporary Branch of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. This museum, a former police car warehouse renovated by Frank Gehry, seems an intriguing place for the work of this intriguing artist.
Olafur Eliasson repeatedly takes on large questions and projects in an apparent quest for understanding, wonder and appreciation. His fascination is an exploration of creation within creation as he looks closely at the world around him and shares his views. May this artist’s work inspire our own noticing and our heartfelt prayers of gratitude for the marvel of God’s creation and the abundance of God’s grace.
In gratitude, faith and hope,
