Art Reflection - Klee

Paul Klee (1879-1940) was a Swiss-born German artist and major contributor to the Cubism and Expressionism movements. He worked in geometric shapes of color to show us the usual in a unique way. He believed that art does not reproduce what we see but it helps us see. In this crowded composition you may see in a new way hints of the times and places of the birth we now await.

Art helps us find a way of seeing as does our faith. Through the eyes of faith, through the lens of the Word, we may see in Klee’s Temple Gardens, the bright colors of our coming celebration; the cityscape and trees of Bethlehem, the wonder and light of the birth of love. We may see here the seismic change of a night in a stable that has rippled through centuries and the blessed return of it to our minds and hearts now.

May our seeing be always guided by our faith in the God of all creation and of all love. May we give thanks for the artists who help us see again and anew. Amen.

In gratitude, faith and hope,
