Wassily Kandinsky was born in Moscow on December 16, 1866 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine on December 13, 1944. In the years between he showed us again and again what painting could express and captivate. He showed us again and again our memories, our emotions, our own creativity of interpretation and meaning.
This scene is remarkable for its tilted perspective and color. Kandinsky’s use of tints, colors with white added, of muddied gold-green and brilliant cobalt blue draw us into a place he saw and we may remember. Even if we ignore the title and just look at the shapes and colors, we can join this master artist in the beauty of a place and a time.
May we know just such beauty in the scenes of our every day. May we know God and give God thanks for each one.
In gratitude, faith and hope,
