Welcome

*Call to Worship
Leader: We bring heart, mind and body
People: We share hope, struggle and joy
Leader: We bring our faith and our doubt
People: We share our stories and our compassion
All: With all that we are, and all that we have, we worship God together.

*Corporate Confession (Unison)
Almighty God, we enter your presence
confessing the things we try to conceal from you and
the things we try to conceal from others.
We confess the heartbreak, worry, and sorrow we have caused,
that make it difficult for others to forgive us,
the times we have made it easy for others to do wrong,
the harm we have done that makes it hard for us to forgive ourselves.
Lord have mercy and forgive us.
In Christ Jesus we pray, amen.

*Assurance of God’s Love

*Response Gloria

Two Thousand Years (11:00am)
Billy Joel (b. 1949)

In the beginningThere was the cold and the nightProphets and angels gave us the fire and the lightMan was triumphantArmed with the faith and the willEven the darkest ages couldn’t kill

Too many kingdomsToo many flags on the fieldSo many battles, so many wounds to be healedTime is relentlessOnly true love perseveresIt’s been a long time and now I’m with youAfter two thousand years

This is our momentHere at the crossroads of timeWe hope our children carry our dreams down the lineThey are the vintageWhat kind of life will they live?Is this a curse or a blessing that we give?

Sometimes I wonderWhy are we so blind to fate?Without compassion, there can be no end to hateNo end to sorrowCaused by the same endless fearsWhy can’t we learn from all we’ve been throughAfter two thousand years?

There will be miraclesAfter the last war is wonScience and poetry rule in the new world to comeProphets and angelsGave us the power to seeWhat an amazing future there will be

And in the eveningAfter the fire and the lightOne thing is certain: Nothing can hold back the nightTime is relentlessAnd as the past disappearsWe’re on the verge of all things newWe are two thousand years

Sacrament of Holy Baptism

*The Baptismal Creed (Unison)
In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. We trust in the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Creator, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen. (Excerpted from A Brief Statement of Faith.)

Prayer of Dedication (Unison)
God, you have so greatly loved us, long sought us, and mercifully redeemed us. Give us grace that in everything, we may yield ourselves, our wills and our works. A continual thank offering to you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer (Unison)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
