Montview’s 2020 version of Stewardship Sunday had a festive feel to it. As I approached the steps to the sanctuary I saw Montivew’s 91 year-old stewardship chest sitting on the landing, I wondered if it had ever been outdoors since the day it was brought to the church in 1929. If it was enjoying the bright Colorado sunshine as much as I was, it might have made a run for it. Although a more casual rendition, the ritual of placing my pledge card in the old wooden box while Barb Hulac’s organ stylings provided a soundtrack, still felt good. After I pledged and happily wandered through the tables of Advent booklets, cookbooks and yard signs like I was at a street fair, I heard Mary Evelyn Eckford arrive exclaiming, “It feels great to come to church on a Sunday morning.” That was it. That was exactly the reason my spirit had been so light. I had missed my ol’ friend, Sunday Morning. I look forward to us getting reacquainted in ’21.
