May is Habitat for Humanity Month at Montview. For more than 17 years, the Montview congregation has helped hard-working, low-income families build their own homes. This year Montview is sponsoring Bouchra and Mohammed and their four sons. The family currently shares an overcrowded apartment, fitting their family of six into just two bedrooms, because it’s what they can afford to rent. In addition to being too small, the apartment itself is inadequate with poor heating, loud neighbors, and deficient maintenance. Bouchra says of their Habitat home, “Our life will change because we will have more space, less noise, and room for my sons to do their homework and have space growing up.”
This year’s Habitat home project is a four bedroom two story single family home in Southwest Denver’s College View neighborhood. The home will be the eighth in a development that will ultimately include 16 single family homes across the street from an elementary school.
Montview has pledged $10,000 towards building this home, and we hope to raise the amount from member donations during our May campaign. We have also committed to filling 72 construction spots during six work dates from June to August.
Volunteers never have to perform an activity out of their comfort zone. Many volunteers enjoy learning new skills by working closely with experienced volunteers or Habitat staff.
During May’s “Habitat for Humanity at Montview” campaign, watch for opportunities to donate and volunteer. Help to make Bouchra and Mohammed’s family dream of home ownership come true.
There are several ways to get involved. Just stop by the Habitat table before or after church during the month of May to make a donation to meet our $10,000 goal, volunteer to work on the house, or bring lunch to the volunteer construction crew.
