This letter contains detailed information about our children’s programs. A chart for quick reference of times and places is included and is in our bulletin each Sunday. We hope that both will be valuable for your family!
We have self-contained classrooms for our 3 and 4 year olds and kindergarteners. The 3 and 4 year olds are in Room 212 and the kindergarteners in Room 215. Each of these classrooms has a team of four teachers with two teaching each Sunday. We use the Heart Shaper Children’s Curriculum. The children will bring home a coloring sheet, a project and/or a pamphlet each week to help you reinforce their lesson at home. You are also always welcome to attend Sunday School with your child. We could always use helping parents in these rooms!
Our first through fifth graders move through the lessons of the Feasting on the Word Curriculum. These follow the lectionary and focus on Bible stories and characters from the Old and New Testaments. The children participate in a wide variety of activities during each unit.
Kindergarten, first and second graders begin their Sunday School time with Cantate Choir from 9:15-9:40 in Room 305 on the third floor. We will collect their offering for Montview Church and their donations for other mission projects during choir each Sunday. At 9:40, the children are escorted to the appropriate classroom for Sunday School. Our kindergarteners move to Room 215 on the second floor for instruction. The first and second graders go to their third floor classrooms. Please meet your children at their classrooms at 10:20. A chart on the bulletin board near my office door shows the classroom location of each grade level each Sunday.
The third through fifth graders meet in the Room 304A on the third floor from 9:15-9:40 for a discussion and fellowship. We will collect their offering for Montview Church and their donations for other mission projects during this assembly. They are escorted to their Sunday School classrooms at 9:40 and have instruction until 10:20. Please meet your children at 10:20. Please use the chart referenced above to find the classroom location of our children each Sunday.
As noted above, kindergarten, first and second graders have Cantate Choir practice every Sunday morning in Room 305 on the third floor from 9:15-9:40. The Timbrel Choir for grades three through eight meets on Sunday afternoon in Room 305 from 4:00-5:00. John Kuzma, our Minister of Music, directs both of these choirs and both have the opportunity to perform in worship services and Montview Christmas and Spring concerts.
We offer a wonderful childcare program for all children ages birth through second grade. Childcare is available for children through age two in the Room 210 on the second floor from
8:00 – 12:15. We have a two-part name tag system for sign-in and sign-out and silent pagers for parents to take with them to worship. We will page you if your child is unhappy and can not be consoled within 15 minutes.
After the Word to the Children at the 8:15 service, childcare for children ages three through seven is provided in Room 212 on the second floor. We encourage parents to take their children to worship with them until after the Word to the Children and then sign them into childcare in the Commons. They are escorted to Room 212 by our childcare staff. You can sign them out there.
After the Word to the Children at the 10:30 service, parents sign their children into childcare groups in the Commons. We have three groups.
Our two year olds who are ready to leave the nursery and young three year olds who turn three after September 1 are in the Yellow Group. This group is in Room 213.
Our Red Group is for our three year olds who turn three before September 1 and our four year olds. This group is in Room 212.
Our Blue Group for five, six and seven year olds is in Room 215.
After the children are signed in, they are escorted by our childcare staff to Rooms 212, 213 and 215. Parents sign their children out of childcare in these rooms after the 10:30 service.
Montview Church encourages children to be in worship with their families. We suggest that children ages two through seven join us in the sanctuary through the Word to the Children. Parents may sign them into childcare in the Commons after the Word to the Children. We ask that children who have completed second grade stay with their families for the worship service. We have two children’s bulletins available. The White Bulletin invites the children to notice things about the sanctuary, the adult bulletin and the worship service.
Worship Participation Opportunities
Montview Church encourages children to be a part of worship also. Children in grades 3-5 can usher, acolyte and read during the 10:30 service. Please contact me for further details.
Our children in grades 3-5 meet quarterly from 5:00-6:30 in Room 304A to share food, fellowship, games and mission projects. This is an introduction to being at church beyond Sunday morning.
Pulpit Players Drama Group
Our children in kindergarten through fifth grade may participate in this drama program. In January and February during our Sunday School hour, children who wish will rehearse a Bible story musical written and directed by our talented and enthusiastic Pulpit Players Staff. They perform for the Montview congregation in the sanctuary during the 10:30 worship service. Please watch for dates and details about this exciting Sunday School program.
I hope this overview is useful. Your family is very important to Montview Church and we look forward to working with your children. We also encourage you to become involved by visiting our
classrooms, discussing our activities with your children and volunteering as a classroom assistant.
We also have a quarterly group for parents. It is called PASS, Parents At Sunday School. We
discuss our current curriculum, Sunday School activities, and this wonderful adventure of parenting faithfully. This is a good place to get to know other parents.
Please contact me at 303-355-1651×110 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions about this information. We look forward to hearing from you!
